Formed in Dublin on 25 September 1976 with members Bono( vocals and guitar ), The Edge( guitar, keyboards and vocals), Adam Clayton(Bass guitar) and Larry Mullen Jr.(drums and percussion). They were not very much professional during their early years but by the mid 80's they became the best international act.

They have sold more than 170 million albums worldwide. This band has won 22 grammy awards which is more than any other band. They were recognised for their live acts rather than their record selling. In 1987 they released their album "The Joshua Tree" which turned them from heroes to superstars.

According to Rolling Stone magazine U2 is ranked 22 in its list of 100 greatest artists of all time. Some of the greatest songs of U2 are Sunday Bloody Sunday, Where The Streets Have No Name, One, With Or Without You, New Years Day, Pride( In the name of love), Beautiful day, Sweetest Thing, All I Want Is You etc. U2's first commercial success "War" Debuted no. 1 in UK and its first single "New Years Day" was their first hit outside Ireland or the UK. They were heavily influenced by Bands like The Who, The Clash, Ramones, The Beatles, Joy Division. Till now the band has released 12 studio albums. Their compositions are excellent which includes the Anthemic Sound, textural guitar playing of The Edge, Impassioned vocals of Bono and conceptional lyrics. U2 have pursued a more traditional sound that retains the influence of their previous musical explorations. The were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. Apart from good music they have worked a lot for socical cause. They have campaigned for human rights and social justice cause, The ONE campaign and Bono's DATA( Debt, AIDS, Trade in Africa).

This band truly deserves to be the best international act of its time ..
